Info - Ostkustleden 2005
Description:
The Ostkustleden is an easy round hike in an area south of Stockholm called Smaland.
It is suitable for winter and for summer hiking due to its good infastructure and the public houses in which you can spend the night at the end of each day.
The terrain is always straight foreward and suitable for beginners, although the distances are sometimes quite long. Something you should consider when walking the Ostkustleden in winter. We basically got into darkness every day because we started too late in the morning.
Even in January the temperatures don't usually fall below -10° which is fine for hiking. The houses usually have a fireplace with fuel or electric heaters.
Although it is a very good hike through beautiful scenery you won't meet many people on your way. Not in summer... and even less in the winter.

How to get there:
If you start from Stockhom you basically need to take the SwebusExpress Bus (Line 835 Kalmar-Västervik-Norrköping-Stockholm) to Oskarshamn where the tour starts and ends. As an alternative you could also leave the bus at Misterhult and hike back to Mötfors and make your way south towards Oskarshamn from there.

Tour:
There are not many chances to miss the way as it is marked well. If you go there in summer, no extra map is needed. Just take one of the leaflets from the DNF which you will find in English / German / Swedisch in every house.
If you go there in winter, make sure you don't get into the darkness or if so... make sure you have a good lamp along, as some markings are difficult to find in darknes or might be covered by snow (in which case the lamp won't do the job).
