Page 1 of 2 This famous park offers dramatic granite peaks and long, white beaches. One of the "Great Walks of Tasmania" leads through this National Park, the Freycinet Peninsula Circuit. Cape Tourville This cape is located in the Freycinet National Park just 10 minutes from Coles Bay via a gravel road. You can enjoy a beautiful 20 minutes circuit around a lighthouse (built in 1971) that offers stupendous views of the coastline of the park. Freycinet Peninsula Circuit We stayed in the lovely Y.H.A. Backpackers (Iluka Holiday Centre) in Coles Bay. Coles Bay is a nice little town 2 ½ hours drive from Hobart. From there it's just a few kilometres to the car park near the visitor centre from where this 30 km circuit starts. There should also be public transportation to Coles Bay and the Visitor Centre. If you plan to walk the circuit you should sheck out the water supply there. There are watertanks at the campsite at Cooks Beach and a small stream at the campsite at Wineglass Bay. But during the main season there nevertheless could be a lack of water. Another thing you should think of is the plant disease Phytophthora cinnamomi (root rot). Make sure you start your trip with clean gear and clean it after you finished your trip. To avoid spreading out the disease just walk the track anti-clockwise... Hazards Beach The track leads you around the Hazard Mountains along Hazards Beach and continues south to Cooks Beach with a possible sidetrip to Bryans Beach. Now you cross the peninsula over a plateau next to Mt. Freycinet and the track leads on to Wineglass Bay via Mt. Graham. From the famous and beautiful Wineglass Bay the track continues uphill over a pass back to the visitor centre. You can finish the track easily in 3 days with camping possibilities at Cooks Beach and Wineglass Bay. Wineglass Bay From the carpark to the campsite at Cooks Beach it took us 5 hours walking along the beach to our campsite at Cooks Beach. Over Mt. Graham to Wineglass Bay (it is said to be one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world) it is a 5 1/2 hours walk steep uphill and a long long way downhill.
