- Mt. Field National Park

Mount Field National Park is the oldest National Park in Tasmania!

It's a perfect opportunity for day-visitors to see an astonishing variety in vegetation ranging from tall swamp gum forest and massive tree ferns through rainforest and alpine vegetation. You can see there some of the tallest trees in the world!

The National Park is just over one hour’s drive north-west from Hobart.

There is a multiplicity of walks from easy to more difficult. For example some of the  "Great Short Walks"

Russel Falls

You can reach the falls within an easy 10 minutes stroll through green ferns and giant eukalypts

Tall Trees Walk

An easy 30 minutes walk through a forest that features the world's tallest flowering plants

Or try the 2-4 hours circuit from Russel Falls over Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls to Tall Trees Walk

A longer and more difficult walk (8-9 hours return) would be Mt. Field WestMt. Field West is the highest mountain in the park, the route can often be skied in the winter months. You can even walk a couple of days returning from Mt. Field West via the Newdegate, Tarn Shelf or Lake Webster but you should take a tent with you because there are only emergency shelters on the way.

We planned to walk this route but because of upcoming listlessness we cancelled the tour ;o)
